Overview
Levelling up your presentation skills is a great way to make your research more accessible, more impactful, and more engaging.
It will help you stand out from the crowd and, most importantly, it will help you to have more confidence when speaking in public – whether that’s in the classroom, at a conference, or in a board room.
This public speaking workshop will give you the encouragement and guidance you need to prepare for your next academic presentation, including how to:
Identify the features of a great presentation;
Develop your opening ‘hook’;
Craft your narrative; and
Deliver an engaging presentation, including managing nerves, preparing your slides and managing Q&A.
There will also be opportunity for targeted feedback on your opening statement in Session 5.
Workshop Preparation
Participants are requested to prepare and share the first 1-2 minutes (your “hook”) of your forthcoming presentation as part of this workshop.
We recognise that this might sound intimidating, but we warmly encourage you to participate in this part of the workshop and to benefit from the supportive and constructive feedback that will be offered by workshop facilitators. This part of the program will not be recorded.
